Location: Leeds, however applicants are welcome from outside of Yorkshire as long as you're willing to commute for the bi-monthly meetings


Background Required: Not for Profit is essential, Supported Housing experience is desired


Our client, a reputable Not for Profit organisation, is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join their team as a Board Member. As a Board Member, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic direction, ensuring financial security, and ensuring the organisation fulfils its constitutional objective. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause and make a lasting impact on the community.

Responsibilities:



  • Oversee the strategic direction of our client's organisation, ensuring alignment with their objectives, vision, and mission.

  • Attend bi-monthly meetings, come prepared by reviewing meeting papers in advance, and actively participate in constructive and relevant discussions.

  • Contribute to the agenda set by the Board Chair and attend the Annual General Meeting.

  • Participate in sub-group Board meetings when required.

  • Adhere to established policies and procedures, with specific attention to our client's Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies.

  • Ensure effective management of the organisation and engage in personnel tasks as they arise, such as interviewing new staff or participating in appeals/complaints panels.

  • Take responsibility for staff development needs and ensure fair pay and working conditions are met.

  • Stay well-informed about the organisation's activities and broader issues that may affect its work in the immediate, medium, and long term.

  • Review and, if necessary, revise strategic objectives to achieve organisational goals.

  • Monitor and evaluate the overall performance of the organisation, including financial, operational, and strategic aspects.

  • Stay informed through regular reports from staff, supervision, and feedback from clients and consumers.


Legal Obligations:



  • Ensure the organisation pursues its objectives as outlined in its governing instrument.

  • Have a thorough understanding of the governing instrument and act in the best interest of the beneficiaries.

  • Comply with legal responsibilities and ensure the organisation operates within the law.

  • Manage financial resources and assets responsibly, utilising them to achieve the organisation's objectives.

  • Ensure funds are spent for their intended purposes and that proper accounting is provided to funders, the Charity Commissioners, members, and the local community.

  • Collaborate effectively with other Board members.

  • Ensure proper professional advice is sought when necessary.

  • Work in the interests of the organisation, avoiding personal gain.


Qualifications:



  • Demonstrable experience in providing strategic direction and governance within a Not for Profit organisation.

  • Knowledge of constitutional objectives and good practise in the non-profit sector.

  • Familiarity with personnel management and performance evaluation processes.

  • Understanding of legal compliance and the importance of prudent financial management.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, clients, and the wider community.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
